FishHawk Fellowship Plans Weekly Trips

Pastor David Whitten and the FishHawk Fellowship Church are also trying to do their part to help Hurricane victims. Church member, Jason Ford, came up with the plan to take church members every weekend to the Mississippi area to offer assistance of food and supplies.

"The first weekend, we loaded up $1,300 in food and supplies and got as far as Pascagoula, Mississippi," said Whitten.

It was there that Whitten and his team of volunteers decided that their church would adopt the First Baptist Church of Pascagoula and has committed itself to serve and financially help the Pascagoula members and church staff get back on their feet.

"We started off driving road by road handing out food, water, ice and trash bags to any families that we could find," Whitten added.

"Now we're focusing on cleaning out houses and tearing down sheet rock and insulation, basic demolitions work."

Whitten says manpower is key to assist all those in need and welcomes volunteers to accompany his church team on any weekend trip. Recommended supplies are basic tools and gloves and a sleeping bag or cot. For anyone wanting to donate supplies, Whitten suggests donating a Lowe's gift card so that they can purchase the supplies to rebuild the battered homes.

For more information, call the church office at 655-7431 or drop off donations at 15326 FishHawk Blvd., located two miles from Bell Shoal Rd.
