Buildings are popping up at record speed on S.R. 60 in Valrico and if Earl May has his way, by this time next year Blue Water Express Wash will be one of them.
According to May, the express car wash company recently filed papers with Hillsborough County for a facility that will house 20 vacuuming bays and an automatic car wash on the northern side of S.R. 60, next to the Race Trac gas station.
"We submitted the site plans and waiting to hear back," says May, who co-owns the Tallahassee-based company with Ken Tyrell.
If approved, the Valrico location will be the third for the company, which currently has an express wash in Alabama and recently opened one in Clermont, Florida.
According to May, Blue Water Express Wash is a hybrid between a full-service and self-service car wash and will offer free vacuuming for customers in addition to the three-option mechanical car wash.
"The car wash is a mechanical tunnel which moves cars through on a conveyer belt," says May. "Customers will be able to stay in their cars and will be out within three minutes. It can also hold more than one car at a time, so there will be very little wait time."
May explains that the company's goal is to offer its customers an affordable wash, so in addition to the free vacuuming, the washes will be priced at $3, $6 and $9.
"We are really excited about the opportunity to move into Valrico," says May. "It seems like a really nice growing area with lots of traffic and cars that will need washing."
Although the headquarters for the company will stay in Tallahassee, according to May the group will hire locally for management positions.
The property is located to the east of the Race Trac gas station at 810 E. Brandon Blvd. and in addition to the car wash, which will sit on the western side of the parcel, 6,000 sq. ft. of retail space will be available for lease on the property.
