Third GibTown Bike Fest Scheduled

By Kate Barker

Anyone with even the smallest interest in motorcycles should mark their calendar for January 7 and 8, when the third annual GibTown Bike Fest is scheduled to take place in Riverview.

With three acts performing stunts every day, music from Charlie Souza and the New Tropics and Bobby Friss, a poker run with a $1,000 first prize and much more, the bike fest is sure to be a fun day out for the whole family.

According to Ron Lane, co-chairman of the event, this year's bike fest will be even bigger than last year.

"We started out with just a poker run and have added entertainment and food each year," says Lane. "People travel from all over the place and even camp for the weekend to make sure they don't miss anything. There is certainly something for everyone."

The acts taking place throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday include Galaxy Girl, who Lane describes as the newest extreme action super hero.

"Galaxy Girl performs stunts on a trapeze 80 ft. up in the air and climbs even higher to a 127-ft. sway pole for her grand finale," explains Lane.

In addition, one of the nation's best motorcyclists performs maneuvers such as jumping across large gaps, doing 180 degree flip turns, jumping off or onto a 10 ft. wall and much more during the FERE Thrill Show.

Saturday's entertainment includes a bike show from Noon-3 p.m. and musical acts starting at 5 p.m.

The poker run, where riders travel over a prescribed course and at designated stopping points, select a card and at the end of the run, the person with the best poker hand wins a prize, starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday raises money for the Showmen's Shrine Club, which helps many charities locally throughout the year.

The Fest will be held at 6915 Riverview Dr, a quarter mile east of Hwy. 41. on Riverview Dr., and gates open at 9 a.m. both days. For more information, visit www.gibtownbikefest.com or call 677-3590.
