FishHawk Relay Names Its Heroes

Lithia Springs Elementary School students Sydney Sims (left) and Zachary Tucker are the honorary survivor chairs for the FishHawk Relay for Life March 31 at Newsome High School.

When volunteer teams hit the track for the Relay for Life later this month to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS), two very special Lithia Springs Elementary School students will be leading the pack. Zachary Tucker and Sydney Sims, who are both currently undergoing treatment for cancer, have been chosen as the event's honorary survivor chairs and will be the first walkers in the overnight fundraiser.

Lake Hutto Plans Back to Hearing Master

More than 50 area residents dressed in red and many gave passionate pleas about traffic jams and overcrowded schools to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)at its public meeting regarding Lake Hutto in late February. The meeting was the final step in the approval process for Pulte Homes planned 3,500 single and multi-family homesites at Lake Hutto on FishHawk Blvd.

But, the residents couldn't quite convince the commissioners to give up Pulte's offer of $64 million in roadway infrastructure improvements and donation of 20 acres of land for two needed schools.

County staff held a ribbon cutting for the opening of the first phase of the newly widened Boyette Rd. last month, but Riverview residents traveling the busy road daily wonder what they are celebrating. The project, which has two phases left to complete, is now two years behind schedule and construction is causing huge delays and back-ups from Bell Shoals Rd. to U.S. Hwy. 301.

Pirates Invade Nativity Fundraiser

The Nativity Catholic School auction committee is promoting the Auction & Gala 2006 as the "ultimate pirate event." It will be held on Saturday, April 29, 6:30 p.m., at Raymond James Stadium. This year’s theme, "A Pirate's Life - Treasure the Past, Set Sail for Their Future" will have guests gnarling and growling with their fellow mate's to try to outbid each other on numerous auction items. .
