Would you like to learn more about the history of Riverview? Do you need a referral for a painter or landscaper? Or want to know who has the best pizza in town? Click on the message board at RiverviewOnline.com and find out this and more without leaving your desk.
John and Terri Bakas, who created the Website more than six years ago, recently hosted an informal gathering for Riverview residents at DaSilva's Coffee House.
"We decided it was time to put a face with a name from all the message board postings," said Terri. "It's important to us to continue building relationships within the community." The site has blossomed over the years, but it started so that John and Terri could learn more about the area and share it with others.
"We created RiverviewOnline.com as a way to help residents maintain the small town atmosphere that is part of Riverview's history. The message board is a big part of that effort as it facilitates neighbor-to-neighbor communication," John said.
There are no categories at RiverviewOnline.com, but you're never more than two clicks away from any information. You can read about real estate growth, what problems are happening in your subdivision, learn about proposed revisions to school board boundaries or get referrals on physicians, restaurants or places of interest.
Diane Finch visits the website daily. "It's an interesting website and I've learned a lot. Plus it keeps me more in tune with what's going on in the area, good and bad," she says.
The message board is helpful whether you're a long-term Riverview resident or you've just relocated to the area. Theresa Wells, a transplant from New York, found the message board a necessity. "I couldn't find a landscaper that I was happy with until I visited the message board. It's a fantastic site." She now spends time answering other people's questions, not just posting her own.
The first RiverviewOnline.com meet and greet was a success. Riverview residents found they clicked not just via the website, but in person as well. The next get-together is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at DaSilva's Coffee House, located in the plaza at the intersection of Boyette and Balm Riverview roads.
