Parents of students who attend Mintz Elementary can rest assured that their children will be safe arriving at school next year, as the AAA safety patrol of the year is on duty.
Benjamin Carpenter, a fifth grade student and Brandon resident, was selected out of approximately 70,000 patrols to be honored with the AAA Auto Club South Safety Patrol of the Year award.
"Ben was chosen for this award because of his dedicated service day in and day out to keeping his fellow classmates safe, " says Sojeila Orengo, of AAA Auto Club South. "He takes his patrol duties seriously but diplomatically. He was selected because of his leadership qualities, safety skills, school involvement and citizenship."
Although being a top notch safety patrol keeps Carpenter busy, according to Mintz safety patrol adviser, Sherry Archer, he still finds time for numerous volunteer efforts. In his spare time, Carpenter works with the Brandon Shrine Club, is a member of the Boy Scouts, helps to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is the starting center for the Tampa Thunder Power Wheelchair soccer team.
Despite all of Carpenter's extracurricular activities, he has maintained perfect attendance and been on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester since Kindergarten.
Many people agree that Carpenter is an outstanding young man and is the perfect choice for Patrol of the Year. "I can tell you from personal experience that this young man is deserving of this award," says Orengo. "He is one the most charismatic kids I've met."
