Many people have trouble with making good rice. By that I mean rice that is flaky and not stuck together like a big gob of white mush. I'll tell you a simple way to make perfect rice that is guaranteed every single time. First is to use regular rice, long grain or other as you may choose. Do not use any type of prepared rice. Uncle Ben does not work here! Use the old standard measurement of one cup rice for every two cups of liquid.
Perfect Rice
Ingredients: |
-
Small amount of cooking oil.
-
Any or none of the following:
-
Chopped onion, minced garlic,
other seasonings as you may choose.
-
1 unit of rice.
-
2 units of liquid such as:
water, chicken stock, beef stock,
or other liquids.
|
Directions: |
-
In a good size frying pan add oil and seasoning items.
-
If it has onions, cook until translucent.
-
Add the rice to the seasoning and continue for a short time.
-
In a pot that has a cover to fit, add the liquid and the seasoned rice and stir briefly. Cover and bring to a boil without lifting the lid. Steam will start pushing out around the lid. After 30 seconds, turn off the heat and set the pot on a vacant burner. DO NOT LIFT THE LID !!!
-
Set the timer for 22 minutes. At that time lift the lid and you will have perfect rice.
-
You can do the same procedure with just one unit of rice and two units of water and no additives.
