Residents Launch Fund Following Death

By Lisa Lambson

Tyler Clark

The scene of the accident that claimed Bloomingdale teen Tyler Clark filled with candles, flowers, balloons, bibles and lots of memories.

The Bloomingdale community has experienced a tragedy that caused one teen's death and injured seven passenger recently.

Tyler Clark, a senior at Bloomingdale High School, and his seven passengers were only going a few blocks to the local McDonald's but joy quickly turned to tragedy when Clark's jeep hit a newly extended, unmarked median causing Clark's vehicle to lose control and flip several times before crashing into a tree.

The Bloomingdale community, already known for responding when something devastating happens locally, has responded again. Since the day of the accident, Bloomingdale teens have stepped up, from the students who witnessed the crash and called 911, to the volunteers who spent hours searching for Clark's cross to return to his mother, to those that created memorials to honor Clark and held car washes to raise money for funeral and medical expenses; Bloomingdale teens worked hard in Clark's memory.

At Clark's Memorial Service, held in October, auto shop teacher Rick Fortney said, "I'm here to tell you that Denise and Dean Clark had one heck of a fantastic son that will be missed by myself and all the people whose lives he has touched. I'm thankful for the time that I did have with this remarkable young man from the Bloomingdale High School family. Tyler had a way of tattooing himself to your heart to make sure that you knew he was there, and he made his mark on you and your life."

If anyone would like to make a donation to help out the families involved in Clark's accident, send it to Nativity Catholic Church, 705 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, FL  33511.  Please be sure to mark your donation for the "Bloomingdale, Because We Care" fund.  Once the church establishes each family’s needs, it will make donations accordingly. If you have any questions, please contact Jill Ferguson at 689-4147.
