Center Place Chalk Walk For Kids

By Patricia Johnson

Chalk Walk

Center Place executive director Claudia Yake and board members Tammy Holmberg and Michelle Hernandez invite the community to express its creativity at the first Love of the Arts Chalk Walk on Sunday, February 11.

Remaining true to its rich tradition of promoting fine arts and civic involvement for all ages, Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association invites the community to its first sidewalk "Love of the Arts" Chalk Walk on Sunday, February 11 from 1:30-3 p.m. This event is free of charge, but tickets are required.

Come out and express your love for the arts as participants use the sidewalk outside of Center Place as their canvas to design a masterpiece with chalk. Center Place board member Nancy Kelley came up with this fun and unique way to celebrate love for the arts while also creating a unique work. She states, "I'm looking forward to enjoying the festivities and seeing the artistic talent as the community comes together to enjoy live music, light refreshments and each other's company." She envisions a festive, lively and wonderful afternoon for all.

This family friendly event promises to stimulate the creativity and artistic ability in everyone. Center Place will provide a bucket of chalk, a section of sidewalk and money-saving coupons from area restaurants and businesses to each participating artist. Children ages 3 and up and adults of all ages are welcome to enjoy balloon tying, caricaturists, face painting, music and more.

Tammy Holmberg, owner of Chick-fil-A at Lake Brandon Village, a major sponsor of this event and co-chair of the Chalk Walk, says, "Participants can look forward to enjoying musical performances from Music Showcase and light refreshments from event sponsors such as Robek's Smoothies, Sweet Tomatoes, Golden Corral and Chick-fil-A."   Holmberg is enthusiastic that the Chalk Walk will be an annual event and that it will indeed promote a love for the arts among Brandon area families.

Center Place, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1976 to offer cultural enrichment opportunities for all ages through a variety of programs including original art exhibits, art education and the performing arts. The facility is located in the heart of Brandon at the Sandy Rodriguez Center, home to both Center Place and the Brandon Regional Library.

For tickets and more information, call 685-8888 or visit Center Place at 619 Vonderburg Dr.
