FishHawk Loses Respected Doctor

Staff Report

The FishHawk community lost a well-respected resident and doctor last month. Dr. Ezzat A. Zaki, the owner and operator of FishHawk Urgent Care, passed away Tuesday, May 15 from a massive heart attack in his FishHawk Trails home.

Zaki, who was born in Cairo, Egypt, was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Ain Shams University Medical School in Cairo and then moved to New York to complete a surgical residency at The Interfaith Medical Center and Toledo, Ohio where he completed his residency training in family medicine at the Medical College of Ohio.

After moving to Florida, Zaki worked in the Emergency Department at Brandon Hospital for more than 10 years and in 2006, along with his wife Joan, founded FishHawk Urgent Care.

In addition to his role as the medical director of FishHawk Urgent Care in Lithia and Urgent Care USA in Plant City, he also founded Rejuvenesce MD, Aesthetic Care Center at FishHawk Urgent Care.

Zaki was a former board member of CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations, and served on the board of the Universal Academy of Florida, an accredited, full-time Islamic school in Tampa.  He was also an active member of the Brandon Area Interfaith Coalition and was a political activist, participating in numerous activities with MoveOn.org.

He volunteered as a doctor at the Red Crescent Medical Clinic in Tampa and other free clinics and gave talks to medical groups.

"Most importantly, Dr. Zaki was a loving husband and father," says Joan. He is survived by their four children, Nora, Adam, Sarah and Deena; three brothers, Adel, Hassan and Ali; a half-brother, Mohamed; and a sister, Azza.

"The family and staff of FishHawk Urgent Care would like to thank the community for their condolences," says Joan.

FishHawk Urgent Care is located at 5464 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd. and can be reached at 681-2111.
