Tenants Move Onto Main Street

By Christina Johnson

New stores have recently opened in the Main Street Shopping Center on new S.R. 60, turning it into a destination for Valrico residents.

Within the strip, businesses represent different services and backgrounds, giving the shopping center a diverse flair.

The Latin Flavor Café offers the option of dining-in and carry out as well as delivery. The store serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a Latin home-style cooking flair. Out of the narrow, but cozy café, breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon. with a selection of mangu (mashed green plantains), yucca con huevos (corn with eggs), salami Dominicano, queso blanco frito (white fried cheese) and tostada Cubana (Cuban toast). Breakfast prices are $5.99 and under.

Lunch offers a number of tasty sandwiches and entrees such as rabo guisado (stewed oxtail), Castillas De Cerdo Ha La Barbecue (barbeque pork ribs) and much more.

To top it off, the café offers mouth- watering side orders and desserts. Choose from fried plantains, soups or a  relleno de papa or two, or for a side of sweetness, partake in an order of flan, arroz con leche, or sip on one of their milk shakes in Morir Sonando, Dominican Dream or Papaya flavors.

The Latin Flavor Café is open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed Sundays. The café is located at 955 E. Brandon Blvd. For more information, call 936-4710.

The Pet City Center offers a different alternative to the mainstream pet stores.

The store's motto, "We strive to beat our competitors' prices" lives up to its meaning. The store offers nothing but discount and wholesale products for pets.

The pet store opened in late May and owner Mark Hicks is pleased with the community response so far.

"We didn't anticipate doing this well so fast," says Hicks, who explains that there has been a steady flow of customers coming in to get their pets groomed.

The Pet City Center is located at 951 E. Brandon Blvd. For more information call 651-9118.

Next Level Shoes and Clothing offers urban and street wear for the younger crowd. Riverview resident and owner Jenny Morge opened the store in February and is enjoying meeting new people everyday.

"One of the unique things about the store is that clothing can be customized however the customer wants," says Morge, who explains that this is her first business.

Next Level Shoes and Clothing is located at 935 E. Brandon Blvd. For more information, call 447-5452.

At Pleasure Nail Spa, owner Ivette Diaz offers many services and products. At the spa, customers can come in for massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and much more.

"When you come here, you feel very relaxed and comfortable," says Diaz.

Pleasure Nail Spa is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call 571-5605.

The tanning salon, Tan'er Up! opened May 23 and Seffner resident and manager Andria Jones says everything looks great with brand new, 2007 lotions, beds and bulbs.

"We have very good service," says Jones. "Now we're just set and ready to go."

The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 655-TANS for prices and more information.

A new optician has opened its services and dubbed their business "The Eye Dr." Appointments can be made by phone and prescriptions can be made there as well.

At 925 E. Brandon Blvd., Advanced Auto Locators, Inc. opened May 12 and does business mostly with car dealerships.

"We deal with only new car dealers," says Kara Yacinich, manager of Advanced Auto Locators. "Basically, we just swap cars between dealers."
