If you’ve ever thought about running for the FishHawk Ranch Community Development District (CDD), now’s your chance. Although the general election is not until November, there is preliminary work involved to put your name in the hat and one spot on CDD 1 is available even before November.
There are three seats up for grabs in CDD 1 to replace current members Kerri McDougald, Cliff Roberts as well as former member William Jacobson.
According to District Manager, Debby Bayne, Jacobson recently passed away and the board is looking to fill the position in the interim. Residents interested in the filling the position should send a resume to Bayne at Rizzetta & Company, 3434 Colwell Ave., Suite 200, Tampa, 33614.
Roberts who has been on the board for four years plans to run for a second term.
“It’s been a good experience,” says Roberts. “I know the job pretty well, now, and I enjoy working with the community, staff, and trying to make sure everything is done correctly on our board.”
McDougald has served two terms and is running for a third. “It is important as a homeowner in FishHawk to try to make it the best neighborhood we can…the best community. I have been on the board since residents have been allowed to be and I want to continue to make FishHawk such a great place to live.”
McDougald also says she hopes someone from phase one runs for a seat. “I don’t want them to feel separated and I know they do,” she says.
“In the past, if someone wanted to be a candidate for a seat, they had to appoint a campaign treasurer, designate a bank and actually open up an account, but it that has changed,” Hillsborough County Candidate Services Manager Tim Bridge says. “Unless a candidate is going to spend money promoting their candidacy they no longer need to do all that. The qualifying requirement now is to collect 25 petition signatures of FishHawk residents registered to vote, or pay $ 25 at the time of qualifying, which is from 12 Noon June 16 until 12 Noon June 20.”
Bridge continues, “If someone does decide to collect petition signatures, they have to be received at the County office no later than May 19 and there is a petition candidate fee, or qualifying fee, that can be paid from personal funds without having to open a campaign account.”
Residents interested in running should contact Bridge at 276-8269 for the packet with all the needed information.
