Bringing life-saving skills to area residents, the American Red Cross is in search of a new Brandon location.
Situated at 410 Ware Blvd., Ste. 300, in Tampa for the past five years, the American Red Cross is looking to move its facility to the Brandon area, seeking partnership with an area business. The organization's lease is coming to an end on March 31 and facilitators believe a move to Brandon is the best option available in order to be conservative with donor dollars, according to Director of Health and Safety Services Joe Cilano. "We have taught over 56,000 people within this three chapter jurisdiction, and we are not only looking to maintain this but also extend its reach. We would love to find a partnership in the Brandon area so there is no disruption in services."
Melanie Koch, communications director, added, "We have a lot of supporters around the Brandon area."
Partnering with United Way, the organization offers residents and the medical community a variety of classes ranging from CPR and first aid to nurse assistant training and aquatics/water safety. Classes average $39-$69, depending on the program selected. "Someone in this class could possibly save a life. I feel that is the most important contribution to the community," mentioned Cilano who also teaches classes. "We try to accommodate the needs of the community," stated Cilano, adding that classes are provided evenings, weekends and throughout the work week. The organization also affords business owners the option of workplace training, bringing the class to the work site.
The organization plans to unveil the 8th Annual Red, White and Blue Bash at 7 p.m. on March 15, American Red Cross month, at the Pepin's Hospitality Centre, located at 4121 N. 50th St. in Tampa, featuring the music of Country Singer Julie Roberts with dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse. For more information, call Denise Ellison at 348-4820, ext. 863. Planned for April 28, the Red Cross Golf Tournament will take place at 9 a.m. at the St. Petersburg Golf and Country Club located at 2000 Country Club Way in St. Petersburg.
