Market Opens Fourth Location

By Carisa Biesecker

Opening the door to its fourth location, Land & Sea Market is bringing a new kind of buying experience to the Brandon area when it comes to meat selection, with a focus on quality, quantity and service.

Walking through the door of the 1,900 sq. ft., gourmet meat market, shoppers are instantly taken aback by the warm inviting feeling of the store, not normally found in such sterile surroundings. A meat lover's haven, the store offers a wide variety of meats from $2.69 a pound for ground sirloin and $3.99 per pound for tilapia to 13 varieties of half pound kabobs, averaging five for $13.99. Residents can choose from succulent, fresh cuts of meat showcased within a 52 ft. meat case, alongside the reasonable priced Boar's Head Brand, or partake from the smorgasbord of seafood displayed in a 16 ft. case, containing a multitude of shrimp, fish and crab cakes. Delicacies such as frog legs, ostrich and buffalo are also available to customers as well as a selection of marinades and spices.

According to Operations Manager Rob Chandler, the most requested item is the bacon wrapped filet mignons, which can randomly be found on special through buy one get one free deals.

"The variety we have here is what makes us unique," added Chandler. "We have specialized items here that you can't get in a grocery store."

Variety isn't the only benefit to shopping at Land & Sea Market. First time customers, upon entering the store, are given a tour of the facility and introduced to its many offerings - a weekly newsletter which provides updates to specials such as the Special of the Week, containing a list of various meats of which six can be chosen for $24.99; Two for Tuesday, a buy one get one free special per $20 purchase; buy one get one free deals; and a Rewards Club Card, offering a free filet mignon coupon just for signing up as well as a $10 gift card upon reaching 300 points ($300) and a free steak coupon on your birthday and wedding anniversary.

"We wanted to reward those who shop here frequently. It's a nice way to give back to them," mentioned Chandler.

Customers are also given the option to have the meat cut specially, packaged individually and seasoned with Greek seasoning, all for free. Another advantage the market gives to its patrons is prepared meats and sides, ranging from twice baked potatoes to stuffed mushrooms, and having a small vegetable stand onsite for one-stop shopping.

When asked why the Brandon location was chosen, Chandler chuckled saying, "Have you driven on S.R. 60 lately? We know of the growth here and how much it has boomed in the last few years. We think this location will be more centralized to potential customers in the area."

Retiring from the Anheuser-Busch Company, Dean Hampers, Chandler's father-in-law, took over Land & Sea Market in 1995 and dramatically turned the company around, having locations in Carrollwood, Tampa Palms, Valrico and, now, Brandon. With beef imported from the Western states, chicken from Georgia, pork from Iowa and seafood from all over the world, the markets are able to purchase the meats while acting as one huge store, passing the savings onto customers.

Located in the Chili’s anchored Providence Square, Land & Sea Market can be found at 1943 West Brandon Blvd. For more information, call 463-9804 or go to www.landandseamarket.com.
