Benefits of Yoga During Pregnancy
Yoga is beneficial for anybody at any stage, especially for women during pregnancy. A pregnant woman’s body is rapidly changing as it supports a developing baby. Yoga can help relieve discomfort, decrease stress and prepare the mother for birth.
Prenatal yoga classes focus on relieving low back pain as well as neck and shoulder tension that can sometimes be caused by the extra weight being carried on the front of the body. Also, strengthening the leg muscles helps to support the extra weight as well as prepare for pushing during labor.
Learning relaxation techniques, including working with the breath, helps mothers to decrease stress during pregnancy which helps decrease stress on the baby in the womb. These techniques can also be used during labor to release tension. Less tension leads to less pain during contractions. Also, learning to use the breath in a productive manner is key during all parts of labor and delivery.
Serenity Stream Yoga & Wellness Spa announced it will be offering a four-week Prenatal Yoga class beginning Sunday, February 8, at 4 p.m. Each class will also feature a speaker on topics such as Hypnobirthing and Reflexology.
Lea Cornell will be the teacher for this four-week workshop. She is a mother of three and has been practicing yoga since she was a teenager. Prenatal yoga is one of her favorite classes to teach. She feels that is encourages endurance and a sense of calm for the new mother.

Salon and Spa Celebrates Three Years
Platinum Skin Spa is looking to add on a service or have a seminar approximately once a month for teens and aging women. It would be two different nights, one for the teens and one for the aging women. Most teenagers do not like to take care of their skin, especially if it means taking a lot of steps to accomplish this. Owner of Platinum Skin Spa Kelly Greene said she has a very simple process that allows teenagers to do it in simply one-three steps. “It takes less than five minutes,” she said. Skin Medica offers a three-step process for teenagers that are struggling with acne and do not want to go to the dermatologist and peel constantly or use possibly dangerous medications, although sometimes medication is necessary for acne.
“If we have a teen that has pretty good skin, then we just recommend cleansing properly and moisturizer,” Greene said. “We also teach them how to cleanse their face and neck.”
So many teenage girls are paying a lot of money every month to have their nails done but, seem to let their faces go. It is very important to incorporate a facial a few times a year and use proper skin care techniques with products. Greene said she would like to educate them on this topic. Greene has an 11-year-old who recently started with little breakouts. She has done a few facials on her daughter and also uses the products and says her skin has really come along way within a couple of months.
“I’m having a birthday party for her at the spa because she loves facials so much,” Greene said. “She would like all her girlfriends to experience the same thing.”
