Hospital Auxiliary and H2U Sew Sweet Dreams for Local Kids

Staff Report

Brandon Regional Hospital Auxiliary members and members of Health to You (H2U) have helped to create sweet dreams by donating hand-sewn, festive pillowcases for the children at A Kid’s Place.  Members were inspired to do something for this local organization after a holiday visit. “Brandon Regional Hospital’s Auxiliary had donated cleaning supplies to A Kid’s Place. We became inspired by the work that was being done for the children and admired the enthusiasm of the people that work and volunteer there,” describes Mary Humberson, recording secretary for the auxiliary.  “We felt more could be done,”After reading an article in a national quilting magazine, encouraging readers to quilt and sew for charity, Humberson approached members of H2U, Brandon Regional’s health and wellness program, and the auxiliary, to start a project that would benefit the children at A Kid’s Place. “Material was donated to our group, and we received cash donations to purchase the material,” explains Humberson. The pillowcases were delivered in May and were received by Virginia Johnson, executive director for A Kid’s Place. “We are very fortunate to be the recipient of pillowcases sewn by H2U and Brandon Regional Hospital Auxiliary members. It is obvious the cases are made with love, as they are absolutely beautiful, fun, colorful and bright and each one unique. The pillowcases are a way of sharing love and comfort at a difficult time in our children’s lives, and we are grateful to the auxiliary and H2U for this support.”The Brandon Regional Hospital Auxiliary continues its strong tradition of caring for the needs of the hospital and the community. The auxiliary was founded in 1977 by the Brandon Women’s Service League. Throughout its history, the Auxiliary has expanded its role and programs to keep pace with the needs of a rapidly growing community.H2U is a multifaceted program designed to assist members with staying healthy and active. For a small annual membership fee, H2U members enjoy access to educational opportunities, social activities, health screenings and national discounts.  A Kid’s Place is a licensed, residential group care provider.
