The Trey Curry Foundation is conducting the Third Annual Trey Curry Foundation Fishing Tournament. The tournament will be kicked off the night before with an event called Treyfest at O’Brien’s Irish Pub in Brandon on Thursday, November 3. The actual tournament will be held on Friday, November 4.
“The fishing tournament is the Foundation’s main event and it will benefit charities like our HCC [Hillsborough Community College] scholarship and A Kid’s Charity of Tampa Bay,” said Executive Director of the foundation Mary Beth Curry.
This year, the tournament will be out of Circles in Apollo Beach. The foundation is happy about this location because of the quality and easy accessibility for the tournament.
“We are very excited about the fishing tournament,” said Curry. “This went from being a one day tournament to an annual event.”
Fishing captain Ric Liles is in charge of the captains and the fishing side of the event.
“The tournament will be a slam tournament which means the winner will have the longest redfish, snook, and trout combined,” said Liles. “It will be a picture tournament so all fish will be released.”
This is a team tournament and will not be judged individually. Pictures will be taken of fish on a measuring stick and whichever boat has the most inches from the three fish will be the winners.
Every sponsored boat will have a certified and licensed local charter fishing captain guiding. A group of people can sponsor a boat for the tournament, not to mention a little local fishing knowledge from the captains.
“It’s all about having a good time and helping others,” said Curry.
Proceeds from the tournament will be benefiting local charities.
“We want to focus on the local community and see where we are needed,” said Curry.
The Trey Curry Foundation was started in 2008 following the untimely passing of beloved son and brother Trey Curry. Trey always tried to help others in need and that is the main goal of the Trey Curry Foundation.
