Audrey Hill is a fifth grade student at Colleen Bevis Elementary; a fifth grade student who is one of only 12 kids in the country chosen to write for TIME for Kids magazine. Audrey was chosen out of nearly 500, in a contest held at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. Entrants were required to submit a story for consideration. If they made it to the next round, they submitted a final story.  Approximately two weeks before the beginning of the current school year, Audrey received an e-mail that she had won the position of reporter for TIME for Kids magazine.
Audrey’s most recent project was a video montage of interviews she had conducted with local military families asking just one question, “What does Veterans’ Day mean to you?”  She interviewed her peers who have parents in the military, the father of a friend, teachers and others. Each interview was recorded on video and later turned into a montage to be presented at the Bevis Veterans Day celebration.   When asked about Audrey and her contribution to the Veterans Day celebration, Bevis Principal Tricia Simonsen said, “We are so proud that one of our Bevis Broncos was selected nationally as a TIME for Kids reporter! We wanted to do something to honor and recognize Audrey, Veterans and those who serve our country, so showcasing Audrey’s skills by highlighting the importance of Veterans Day was a great way to feature accomplishments in our school community.”
When asked what she liked best about writing for the magazine, Audrey said “I love writing. I am good with non-fiction.” When the opportunity to write for TIME for Kids came up, she thought, “I’d be good for that job.”  Audrey aspires to be a broadcast journalist one day and is certainly well on her way.
