Oak Park Plaza on Lumsden Rd. is buzzing with activity as the Shrimp Warehouse recently opened and construction is underway on Pablano’s Mexican Grill which sits on stilts over a retention pond.

The upcoming months will bring big changes to Brandon’s Oak Park Plaza, located on the southwest corner of Lumsden Rd. and Kings Ave. Along with a variety of new tenants, including restaurants, retail shops and other exciting venues, the plaza will experience a face lift from top to bottom.

Owned by National Properties Trust, The 71,500-sq.-ft. plaza is already a destination spot with O’ Brien’s Irish Pub and Shapes. The new businesses will give residents even more reasons to shop local.

Construction is already underway on a possible steakhouse on an out parcel in front of the car wash. Other new eateries will include Poblano’s Mexican Grill and Bar, which is proposed to be built on stilts over the retention pond, The Shrimp Warehouse and a Jamaican restaurant.

“There is a lot going on and we are swamped with phone calls from other businesses interested in the plaza,” said Jean Aielllo, of National Properties.

She added that Brass Monkey Tattoo is moving next to O’ Brien’s and The LOFT Hair and Nail Lounge will be expanding. Century 21 Acclaim has recently moved in and negotiations are underway for a wine, cigar and liquor store.

Other businesses already in the plaza include a dance studio, jewelry store, Tae Kwan Do school, a bible school and others, making it a place for one-stop shopping and dining. A new business just appeared in the plaza as well, offering custom wall murals for baby and children’s rooms, businesses, day care facilities and trade shows. Custom Wall Art can be reached at pellis25@verizon.net or by calling owner Paul Ellis at 629-1812. You can also visit customwallart.com.

In addition to all of the new tenants, two buildings have been knocked down to open up the courtyard and residents can already see the improvements.

Aiello noted that O’ Brien’s will be getting a new look, the parking lot is being resurfaced and more parking is being added, new landscaping is going in and other aesthetic changes are being made.

“We and O’ Briens are really excited about being part of the plaza. The property management company is amazing to work with too,” said Arlene Frisk, co-owner of the LOFT Hair and Nail Lounge.

“Space is still available,” Aiello stated, explaining that National Properties Trust specializes in turn key projects to its clients, including financing.
