Riverview Pit Stop convenience store owner and clerk was arrested on Thursday, April 19, after HCSO detectives purchased K2 (or G-20) synthetic marijuana from the business located at 8624 U.S. Hwy S.

With a court-authorized search warrant at hand, HCSO detectives searched the store and seized
approximately 3,100 packages of the synthetic marijuana with a street value $124,000 dollars.

According to HCSO detective Larry McKinnon, the business continued selling the banned drug K2 after the State Legislature enacted a new law, effective April 1, which banned additional chemical compounds in the product.

“The K2 purchased from the store clerk was tested at a Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory and was positive for a chemical known as AM-2201,” McKinnon said, adding that the chemical was recently added to the Controlled Substance List making it illegal in Florida.

Arrested on Thursday were Riverview Pit Stop store owner Riyad Aljamal, 42, of Tampa and store clerk Kareem Alsioury, 32, also a Tampa resident, both charged with felony distribution of controlled substance.

Detectives also found a semi-automatic rifle.
