Junior Girl Scout Troop 721 members are working on their Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior can earn. For their project, the seven fifth graders decided they wanted to help foster children. During a tour of A Kid’s Place, the director mentioned how much they’d like to have a mobile entertainment cart that could be shared and move between the five houses at A Kid’s Place. While the facility has lots of VCR tapes, it doesn’t have very many DVDs for the children to enjoy. It also lacks music CDs for the children, and is always looking to refresh the board games.

Troop 721 has decided to make their mission providing an entertainment cart for the children at A Kid’s Place. The troop will be collecting new or gently used DVDs, CDs and board games to fill a cart to be donated to the children there. DVDs should be rated G, PG or PG-13 only, and CDs should be family-friendly. A Kid’s Place has residents from birth to 18 years old, so it is looking for a wide variety of movies and music.

A member of the troop, Abbie Whitehurst, said, “We’re doing this project to help foster kids at A Kid’s Place. These kids have been taken from their homes because their parents aren’t able to care for them properly. We chose the entertainment cart because all kids are interested in games, movies and music and this might bring some happiness to their lives while they’re at A Kid’s Place. The project has to be sustainable and they will be able to use this stuff for awhile.”

Please consider donating gently used DVDs, CDs and board games. Troop members will be making house calls to collect items throughout FishHawk neighborhoods on Friday, April 20, during the garage sale preview hours 3-7 p.m. E-mail Troop721@hotmail.com with your address to let them know to make a pickup at your home. If you have items to donate and live outside of FishHawk, donations will be accepted Sunday, April 15-Monday, April 30 at Theatre Arts & Dance Alliance (TADA) in the Sweetbay Plaza on the corner of FishHawk Blvd and Lithia Pinecrest Rd. TADA is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday.

Troop members are also investigating suitable cart choices, and are hoping for a sponsor to help purchase one. If you have connections to a supply company, or would be interested in sponsoring a portion of the purchase of a cart, please e-mail Sandee Pelk and Katie Whitehurst at Troop721@hotmail.com.
