Waterset, Newland Communities’ newest master-planned development in SouthShore is slated to begin its first phase, which will include about 200 homes, by late this year. Eventually, the community will feature recreation, shopping, gathering places and more.

Waterset, a long-awaited master-planned community in Apollo Beach, is planned to open in late 2012, according to developer Newland Communities, bringing the area new homes, recreation, shopping, gathering places and more in natural surroundings with miles of trails leading in every direction to the lakes and fishing ponds, through the wetlands and park.

Situated off of Big Bend Rd. and nestled on between Covington Park and MiraBay, also developed by Newland, Waterset promises to be a unique mix of homes and amenities to create a welcoming and engaging sense of community for those who live and work there.

According to Newland, the community has been envisioned and planned to create a “real town” based on the principles of diverse, authentic architecture for all homes and civic buildings; utilizing unique neighborhood design; celebrating local art and making the best use of additional authentic design principles.

Development is underway as can be witnessed by the bulldozers moving the dirt and the first of what could be more than 3,500 and up to 6,700 homes should be ready by year’s end. When complete, estimated to be a decade from now, Waterset could possibly be one of the largest master planned communities in the United States.

“The community has been waiting a long time for Waterset as it will have a huge impact on the area, comments South Shore Chamber of Commerce executive director Melanie Morrison. “We are very anxious to see some progression aa it sends a positive message that hopefully will propel more development and attract people to the South Shore area to live, work and play.”

Builders selected by Newland to kick off the community include David Weekley Homes (866-493-3553), Homes by WestBay, Cardel Homes and Ashton Woods Homes.

About 200 homes will comprise the first phase with sizes ranging from 1,400 sq. ft. to more than 3,000 sq. ft. and pricing between $150,000 and $300,000.
