Colleen Bevis Elementary School will hold its annual school carnival on Friday, May 18, from 5–8 p.m.  The proceeds will be used by classroom teachers to purchase materials which will enhance the New Generation Sunshine State Standards and the school district’s curriculum.

All members of the community are invited to attend.  Bevis Elementary Assistant Principal Melanie Cochrane explained, “The Rodeo is a fun-filled evening where families can come together and participate in a wide variety of activities to help support our school.  This school-wide event is a great way to spend quality time with family, friends and school staff.”

The carnival will offer old-fashioned carnival games such as a soda bottle ring toss, a duck pond, a cupcake walk, a football toss, a bean bag toss and Twister, with prizes for the winners. Students can request their favorite song or give a shout out to their friends and teachers at the DJ booth.  Food will be available for purchase including pizza, hot dogs, pop corn, cotton candy, snow cones and chicken sandwiches.  Other activities include a bouncy castle, a giant slide, face and nail painting and tattoos.

One of the most popular attractions is the dunk tank.  Students can take turns trying to dunk their favorite teachers.  “Being in the dunk tank is like Groundhog Day.  It’s just over and over and over,” said Lowell Patterson, a physical education teacher at Bevis.  “You’re wet, you’re down.  You’re in, you’re out.  The kids love it, though,” Patterson added.

The carnival will also feature a silent auction, where families can bid on items donated by individuals and local businesses such as jewelry, candles and sports and entertainment packages.  In addition, each of the teachers and their students will create a personalized class project for the auction.

Tickets will be required for all games and food purchases.  Tickets will be available for presale from Monday, May 7–Thursday, May 17, in the school office or may be purchased the night of the carnival.

To sponsor a booth or to donate items for the silent auction, please contact Melanie Cochrane at 740-4000, ext. 228.
