The right two lanes of southbound Hwy 301 and the right lane of Big Bend Rd westbound was closed earlier today due to an overturned semi-truck.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Sergeant Steve Gaskins at 1:18 p.m., on Tuesday, May 22, a 2011 Mack Truck towing a 1988 Fruehauf Trailer and transporting fertilizer, was traveling north on U.S. Hwy 301 south of Big Bend Rd. (CR 672) in the left turning lane.

At the turn the driver, Jesse Philip Lovelace of Bartow, was moving too fast and as a result the tractor trailer overturned onto its right side.

The tractor trailer came to final rest on Big Bend Rd. in the outside lane on its right side and fertilizer material was spilled out of the overturned trailer.

The intersection was closed as a result of the crash while clean-up crews cleared the debris from the roadway.

Lovelace, who was uninjured in the crash, was charged with failure to use due care.
