Newsome Varsity Basketball Team’s Ninth Annual Golf Tournament is giving golf lovers alike a great reason to break out their golf clubs and support a worthy group of high school athletes in preparation for the 2012-13 basketball season.
“The annual Newsome Boys Basketball Golf Tournament has earned a reputation for being one of the best tournaments around,” said Danny Curry, one of the many team parents who are helping put on the tournament. “We are very proud of the success the tournament has had in the past and are continuing the fun that golfers have come to expect from this event.”
This year the tournament will take place on Saturday, September 15, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Golfers have several perks to look forward to, including breakfast and lunch. Members of the varsity basketball team, coached under Barry Jacobs, will act as caddys for each foursome.
“There will also be goody bags, door prizes, silent auction item, raffles and special prizes for the winning teams,” added Curry. “It really is a great time for everyone and it all goes towards a worthy cause.” The proceeds raised from the golf tournament will provide the basketball program with equipment, team camp entries and an end of the year awards banquet.
The cost to sign up for the golf tournament is $85 per person and $340 per foursome. Those unable to attend the event can still show their support with one of the several sponsorship options available, ranging from Hole Sponsor to Major Sponsor. Checks can be made payable to Newsome Athletic Boosters and sent to Danny Curry, P.O Box 5408, Lakeland, FL 33807.
Bloomingdale Golfers Club is located at 4113 Great Golfers Pl. in Valrico. For more information on sponsorship options or to sign up for the tournament, contact Danny Curry at 951-1778 or e-mail dannyc@currycontrols.com.
