As you begin to decorate for the holidays, you can take a trip to a winter wonderland in downtown Tampa and get even more into the holiday spirit with a turn on the outdoor ice skating rink at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park located at 600 N. Ashley Dr. in downtown Tampa. The outdoor ice skating rink is back just in time for the holidays.

The rink will be open daily now through January 5, 2013. The hours are Monday-Thursday from 4-9 p.m. On Friday, the rink is open from 4-10 p.m. On Saturday, you can skate from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. On Sunday, get into the spirit from 12 noon-9 p.m. From December 22-January 5, the rink will be open Monday-Saturday  from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 noon-10 p.m. On Christmas Eve the rink will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. On Christmas Day you can bring the family from 4-10 p.m.

The cost to enjoy this wintery activity is $10.00. This gets you a pair of skates and 90 minutes of skating time. Group rates for groups of 20 or more are available.

Residents from all over the area come to downtown Tampa to enjoy this activity usually reserved for our northern neighbors. Katherine Smith of Valrico said, “I just loved being able to skate on real ice. It really puts me in the mood for the holidays.”

You can also enjoy some family time seeing movies under the stars at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. So grab a blanket and your loved ones and head out for two free movies. On Friday, November 30 there will be a showing of How The Grinch Stole Christmas and on Friday, December 28 you can see Puss In Boots. There will be freshly popped popcorn and candy for sale.
