Having a busy and active family, we knew that we would one day be changing out the builder grade carpeting that came with our home.

Once that decision time came recently, it was a daunting task of shopping, negotiating and compromising on colors, styles, patterns and quality that made this task never-ending for my husband, Doug and I.

When it finally came down to the wire, I called G.Fried Flooring America. Based on its local ownership and donations to countless community events and charities, and the fact that its main partner, Rufus Ashby, lives right here in River Hills, I knew it was the place to go.

When I called G.Fried, they sent out a well established decorator, Jodi Chadwell. Chadwell asked me to describe what I was looking for and what my current decor and color scheme were of the home and she brought out three carpet design selections. We immediately fell in love with a brushed Timeless Collection pattern-cut pile carpet with a very subtle design and she even left the color palette with us so that we could keep looking at our selected colors under different lights.

Next, a professional carpet measure company comes out to measure for space and dimensions of home. This is a free service.

Finally it was installation day and the installers would move all furniture and we had a very specific install sheet describing what our responsibilities were before they arrived.

Our installation team, the Donze Family, a father and two sons who have been installing carpets for more than 17 years just for Ashby alone, arrived on time and ready to work.

The team had 8 different rooms to carpet-virtually the entire home, and they worked hard from 8 a.m.-2:15 p.m. when all furniture was reinstalled and back in place and we had a brand new home.

Kevin Donze and sons, Kenny and Kyle, are proud of the work they do. “Rufus is a good guy and we make sure his customers are always happy,” said Kevin. “He takes care of his installers and his customers.”

Ashby has been in the flooring business for over 20 years. He owned Flooring America which recently merged with another company to have a larger buying power. With G. Fried, the concentration is on the environment and all carpet, padding and leftover materials are 100 percent recycled to reduce environmental impact.
