Candlelight Vigil Set After Loss Of Bloomingdale Student in Car Crash

Seventeen-year-old Bloomingdale High School student Zachary McCarthy died yesterday following a traffic accident in the area of Natures Way and Golf Meadow boulevards.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, McCarthy of Valrico was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am at around 9:25 PM when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to spin out.
The vehicle struck a tree with the driver’s door after leaving the roadway.
According to HCSO spokes person Debbie Carter, alcohol was not a factor, but speeding did contribute to the accident.
McCarthy was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
The passenger Michaela Faessler, 16, was not injured.
A candlelight vigil will take place at 9:30 p.m. tonight at the site of the car crash.
Investigation continues.
