Preparations are underway for the 16th Annual FishHawk Ranch Road Race, taking place Saturday, March 9.

The race is a fundraiser to benefit the six FishHawk Ranch area schools, including FishHawk Creek, Bevis, and Stowers Elementary, as well as, Barrington and Randall Middle School and Newsome High School.

Each year, the race entices athletes of all ages and abilities. Everyone is encouraged to participate and complete the race at his or her own pace. In previous years, the event has been a huge success and hope for this year is to draw even more attention for the cause. Last year’s race attracted over one thousand eager racers and raised close to $20,000 for the schools.

Besides the tremendous efforts of local participants, this fabulous fundraiser wouldn’t be possible without Newland Communities, FishHawk Road Runners and many other sponsors that help to make this event a success. FishHawk Road Runners that participate will receive a portion of their scholarship fund for their assistance with the event.

Race coordinator, Lynda McMorrow, said, “This year, we have changed the race time from the morning race to a Twilight Race.” The race begins at 5 p.m. for kids and 5:30 p.m. for the 5k, located in Park Square at FishHawk Ranch, 16144 Churchview Dr. in Lithia.

Registration for the 5k race is $25 in advance or $30 on race day, and $15 for the Kid’s race. Race packets will be available for pick-up on Friday, March 8, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at Hit the Trails, located at 13433 FishHawk Blvd. in Lithia.

At the conclusion of the races, awards will be given to the overall male and female winners. Awards will be granted to the top three in each race group and ribbons to all the participants in the Kid’s race.

Continuing the post-race celebration, there will also be a band, giveaways, food and refreshments for those who’ve engaged in the race.
