Local Artist’s Students’ Artwork Is Featured At SouthShore Regional Library
By Kathy L. Collins
Johanna Pol of Apollo Beach is a fantastic painter who loves to share her knowledge and creativity with others. Pol teaches classes in the SouthShore area at Del Webb SouthShore Falls located at 5831 Cascade Falls Lane in Apollo Beach.
Pol recently held an exhibition of some of her students’ artwork at the SouthShore Regional Library in Ruskin in the Community Space. This was no ordinary exhibit as the artwork was judged by respected St. Petersburg Art Gallery Owner, Diane Gugliotta.
There were 44 pieces in the exhibit. There were eight winners including the work of Roy Caselton who won Best of Show for his fabulous “Tintagel Castle, Cornwall England.” Gugliotta said, “I was happy to be back in Apollo Beach. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the paintings exhibited.” Gugliotta explained, “It’s difficult to judge a show. Judging sometimes says more about the person judging then the artwork because it is subjective. Often times the winners’ artwork depicts what my definition of good is.”
Pol offers classes Tuesdays from 5 to 9 p.m.; Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per class. Pol said, “My classes are relaxing. Students get to make good friends and can create something that is very beautiful.” Pol added, “You do not have to be an experienced painter to take my classes.”
Pol teaches in the Romantic Realistic style. When possible, Pol teaches plein air which is a French expression which means “in the open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors.
