The Paul Revere Order Of DeMolay Elects Local Student To Statewide Office
By Kathy L. Collins
Erik Legge of Riverview is a Junior in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at Strawberry Crest High School. Legge, a member of the Paul Revere Chapter Order of DeMolay, was just recently elected to hold the position of State Scribe for Florida Jurisdictional Chapter Order of DeMolay in January.
DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men ages 12 to 21 to lead successful, happy and productive lives. Legge was elected to this prestigious position on January 21 at the Mini-Conclave held in Cocoa Beach by DeMolay delegates from across Florida. A Mini-Conclave is a three day, co-ed fun event of sports, games, learning and business meetings.
Legge takes over this leadership position from another chapter brother, Billy Brown of Temple Terrace. Legge will serve in this position for one year.
Legge said, “For the next year, I’ll help the rest of the elected officers with our goals for the year. These include starting up new chapters in locations across the state and increasing the number of district events.”
DeMolay helps young men develop civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more that 1,000 chapters worldwide. Alumni of DeMolay include John Wayne and Walter Cronkite.
Legge said, “I joined DeMolay, specifically Paul Revere Chapter in February 2011. I have had fun times shared with great people. I think the biggest thing that separates DeMolay from the rest is how youth driven the activities are. We elect our own leadership and everyone has input on what we do.”
Legge added, “The camaraderie we have as a fraternity is awesome, and getting to do what we want with those people is even better. Joining DeMolay has been a decision I’ve never regretted; I’ve enjoyed all the time I’ve spent with it.”
The new Chapter officers will be installed on Saturday, February 9 at the Hillsborough Masonic Lodge, #25, at 508 East Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.
