The Annual Tampa Bay Senior Games, a two-week-long event usually held in the fall and is hosted by  Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department (PRC), have been a special part of the lives of area residents age 50 or older for more than three decades.

Of course, such event is not without cost, prompting county officials to seek sponsorships from local businesses for the 2013 Games, scheduled to be held during the second and third week of October.

“Sponsorship will help cover the cost for advertisement, bags, T-shirts, food, use of facilities, and other event-related expenses,” said county spokesperson, Kemly Green.

County officials said that as a sponsor, organizations will get their names and/or logos featured in publications, t-shirts and other printed material; they will be allowed to place banners at certain event locations and can place a display and hand out information during the opening ceremony.

The games will feature a series of competitions including basketball, bean bag toss, billiards, bowling, dominoes, golf, hobby show, pickleball, pinochle, swimming, table tennis, talent showcase, tennis, and track and field.

Official sponsorship request forms and more information can be viewed on line at www.hillsboroughcounty.org.

With the health of its senior residents in mind, county officials are also seeking sponsors for “Let’s Move!”, a senior health initiative that features a series of monthly fun walks and health programs for local senior citizens.

Hosted by Hillsborough County Division of Aging Services and co-sponsored with the regional Lifestyles After 50 magazine, the program is designed to encourage senior citizens to start exercising and socializing in their communities.

Kathy Beck, of Lifestyles After 50 magazine, said that the events will be held monthly at each of the county’s nine Senior Centers, and will include warm-up exercises, a one-mile fun walk, themed activities, health information, a free T-shirt, continental breakfast for participants, and more.

Sponsorship benefits include exhibit tables in a prime location at the nine events.

Sponsorship opportunity for all nine months at the nine Senior Centers is $4,500.  The sponsorship deadline is Wednesday, February 20.

Sponsorship registration form is available to print out on the Aging Services website.  For more information, contact Kathy Beck, Lifestyles After 50, via email or at 653-1988.
