Brandon resident Larry Ott never wins. He is charitable and tries to do his part but he never expects to win. So, when he got the call from the Brandon Foundation Golf Tournament that he was on speaker phone and was just chosen as the winner of the 2013 Brandon Hyundai new car raffle, he was speechless.

“I didn’t believe it,” said Ott, who selected blue for the color of his new car which he and his wife Christine picked up last week from the dealership in Brandon, “But, I have always believed that if you don’t play, you can’t win.”

The Brandon residents purchased the raffle ticket while attending the WinterFest event at Winthrop in Riverview in December. Their current family car has more than 200,000 miles on it so the new vehicle is very welcome.

Brandon Foundation President Rhonda Williams notified the winner by phone at the event, announcing to the crowd that Mr. Ott thought the call was a prank. But, he confirmed that he indeed was the holder of the winning ticket.

The 2013 Hyundai was provided for the drawing by Charity Golf Classic Title Sponsor Brandon Hyundai.

“We are proud to be sponsors of the Brandon Foundation and proud to present this brand new Hyundai to the Ott family,” said Mary Beth McGucken, Brandon Hyundai Mitsubishi  Controller, who co-owns the dealership with General Manager Dan Norris. “In addition to sponsoring the annual Golf Tournament, we are also a Brandon Foundation Angel and we try to assist with families who need car repairs and are sent to us by the Foundation.”
