On Saturday, May 18 members of the GFWC Brandon Service League (GFWC BSL) gathered at BoneFish Grill in Brandon for its Annual Celebration Luncheon. The Luncheon is an opportunity for the members to honor another successful year of service to the community and to award scholarships to deserving students from the greater Brandon area.

This year, thanks to several successful events coupled with the generosity of the community, the GFWC BSL was able to award not just one scholarship, but four $1,000 scholarships.

Diane Forester, President of the GFWC BSL said, ” Presenting these scholarships is a highlight of our celebration.”

The first scholarship is the Reynolds and Claire Bryan Scholarship which honors long-time member and past president, Claire Bryan and her husband. This scholarship was awarded to Trey Bradshaw who will study music at the University of Miami. Bradshaw is an accomplished musician who plays with the Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra.

The next scholarship is the Pat and Lee Elam Scholarship for the Renaissance Woman. This award was given to Brandi Paige Bunn, a single mother with two children. She is a graduate of Armwood High School and wants to earn her BSN from USF so that she can move into an administrative position at Tampa General Hospital where she currently works as a nurse.

The third scholarship was given to Amy Maureen Price, a senior at Durant High School, who will be attending the University of Florida. Price wants to be an oncology nurse at Moffitt Cancer Center.

The fourth scholarship is the Women in Nursing Scholarship. This was awarded to Poyye Chin, a Durant High School senior who came to the United States when she was four from China. Chin will attend USF and earn her degree in nursing with a future plan of becoming a doctor. Chin will be the first in her family to attend college.
