Jake’s Burgers, ‘the best burgers under the bun,’ offers a simple menu of fresh never frozen handmade burgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, salads, chicken sandwiches and even a vegetarian option; draft beer and wine are also served.  Above all other options the most impressive menu item is the Triple Triple burger. The Triple Triple consists of lettuce, tomato, American cheese, and nine hamburger patties. On Saturday, October 19 at 5 p.m., contestants participating in the adult eating contest took their positions to see who could devour this monstrous burger the fastest.

The adult contest was for those over age 13 and open to anyone willing to pay the fee and participate. The prize? A brand new iPad mini. D’Anthony Randolph was the youngest one to enter the competition, a 14-year-old boy from the FishHawk area, who sat confidently amongst the men. The winner was Rob Hastings who was very pleased with himself finishing the burger with a time of three minutes and 41 seconds.

The kids (ages 12 and under) eating contest took place an hour beforehand. The winner who finished their double cheeseburger the fastest would receive a Nintendo DS. Out of the six participants, 12-year-old Alexandra Conguisti stole the competition. “It’s a dream come true,” exclaimed Alexandra, holding her prize tightly. Owner Mark Van Dame and Manager Chris Scigliano were happy with the turnout for the event. In an effort to give a little something back, as part of their outreach and commitment to the community, ten percent of the total sales on Sunday October 20 went to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Team in FishHawk. “We like to be involved with the community as much as we can,” says Scigliano.

Jake’s Wayback Burgers is located at 5672 FishHawk Crossing Blvd., in Lithia.
