Two Hillsborough County District 4 deputies were seriously injured during a routine traffic stop Friday  morning (Oct. 25).

According to HCSO preliminary information 31-year veteran, Captain Steve Launikitis, 53, conducted a traffic stop involving a motorcyclist who was traveling southbound on I 75 just north of the Sun City exit.

Master Deputy Chris Davis, 49, a 27-year veteran arrived on scene to assist on the traffic stop.

While both deputies were standing on the grass shoulder speaking with the stopped motorcyclist, a second motorcyclist traveling southbound on I 75 failed to realize that traffic was slowing due to the traffic stop and struck the deputies and the motorcycle of the traffic stop.

Both deputies were air-lifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.  Both deputies were alert and talking while being transported.

The second motorcyclist was also transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist of the traffic stop was not injured.

HCSO officials said the incident remains under investigation.
