The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is celebrating five decades of service as well as enhancing the lives of the community through fitness, character and athletic programs for all ages and abilities.

The centers’ success was once again highlighted this fall in connection with its Blue Wave Swim and Dive programs.

According to BSAC spokesperson Lori Bukaweski, at the end of the FHSAA High School Swim and Dive season the Center was proud to announce that 11 of its Blue Wave Swim Team members representing several local high schools were qualifiers in the 2013 State Championship Meets.

As expected, the BSAC Swimmers have returned from the FHSAA Class 4A competition held at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center in Stuart on November 16 with several state titles.

Leading her team, Newsome High school student, Maddie Hess won a first place championship title of the 100 yard freestyle, the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 free relay.

Team mates Sarah Neely and Lauren Harper, also Newsome High School, students received first place finishes along with Maddie in the 200-yard free relay as well.
