A native of the southern Hillsborough County area, Benjamin Lewis knew he was destined to his calling. Artistic abilities run in his family as his father is also a tattoo artist so Lewis learned the artistry of tattooing at an early age.

In 2007, Lewis embarked on his  journey and opened his own tattoo shop in Riverview called Believer’s Ink, but this isn’t a typical tattoo shop.

“Our company is based on the belief that God is our founder and creator,” said Lewis. “He has blessed us with our artistry.”

The outside of the building is adorned with a large Ithaca fish with the theme verse, Galatians 6:17, “From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.” On the inside of the pristine shop visitors may find children in a play area of the shop, hear Christian rock music playing over the speaker and experience friendly employees who make everyone feel welcome.

“With God’s hands over our business, He has blessed us with a large clientele and a wonderful group of artists,” said Lewis.

Each artist takes the time to listen to the customer and can create original artwork per their request. This gives the customer the option for a tattoo that is unique to them. Whether it be a child’s name, face, a Bible verse, or any artwork requested, many people come in to the shop with an idea of what they would like and the artists are able to make this request a reality.

There are seven artists at Believer’s Ink and many of their works are displayed on the company’s Website. Often you will find Lewis’ wife, Alysha, at the shop lending administrative support to the business and welcoming clients with a friendly smile. Lewis and his Alysha reside in Riverview and are expecting their first child this spring.

Serving more than 300 customers each month, Lewis is thankful that his business is thriving and that he can offer quality artistry work in a family-friendly environment. There are specials each month and gift cards are also available.

The shop is open Monday-Saturday from 2-9 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. Believer’s Ink is located in the Riverview Plaza, at 9433 U.S. Hwy. 301 S. in Riverview, on the northwest corner of Boyette and Hwy. 301. For more information, visit www.believersink.com or call 374-2137.
