A dragon boat is a human-powered paddle boat made out of wood in various shapes and sizes that originated in the Pearl River Delta region of China that has grown to be an international team paddling sport. In the Chinese lunar calendar, the dragon boat festival is held on the 5th day of the 5th month. The celebration includes dragon boat races and rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves to commemorate the great poet Chu Yuan, who lived 343-290 B.C. These festivities are over 2,000 years old. More information about this tradition can be found on the Leviathans Website under the Dragon Boat History section on the right-hand side.

Scheduled events for the year include the 2nd Annual Puerto Rico Dragon Boat Festival in Lago Cerrillos, Ponce, PR on Saturday, February 1, and the Tampa Bay International Dragon Boat Festival in Tampa on Saturday, April 26. The Leviathans are sponsored by Mira Bay and by Charles Winston Collections.
