On Monday, May 5 the Eastern Hillsborough Art Guild (EHAG) held its annual May banquet and installation of officers at the Plant City Women’s Club located at 1110 N. Wheeler St. in Plant City. For the upcoming term EHAG will once again be led by Valrico resident, Joe Simpson.

“I would like to see our members get more involved in the community. Our number one goal as an organization is to support and promote the arts in the community,” said Simpson. EHAG does this by hosting art shows at the Florida Strawberry Festival and at the Hillsborough County Fair.

In addition to promoting the arts, EHAG supports the arts through various scholarships including ones given to Very Special Arts Florida and the McDonald Training Center. EHAG raises money to fund the scholarships through entry fees paid at the two mentioned shows. These organizations were chosen because of their missions to help challenged artists pursue their love of art.

EHAG also holds several other shows which feature not only the artwork of their members, but other talented artists living in the area. This fall, EHAG will host “Art at the Cottage,” a fun outdoor art show on Saturday, September 27. It will also hold its annual member Christmas Show which is open to the public.

The rest of the executive board will include Mary Jane Wagoner as Treasurer, Patci Sawyer as Membership Chair, Pam West as Corresponding Secretary, Michaela Messeer as Recording Secretary, Mike Bryant as Second Vice President and Richard Wagoner as First Vice President.
