The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Teaching to Excellence Breakfast on Thursday, August 14, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at The Regent located at 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview.

Alison Farnan of Clik me Quik and Jennifer Caskey of CenterState Bank are this year’s chair and co-chair of the event. They are expecting well over 300 new teachers, principals, secretaries, and the Teachers of the Year from each of the greater Riverview area schools.

The Teaching to Excellence Breakfast combines the Teacher of the Year Celebration and the New Teacher Welcome Breakfast.

According to Tanya Doran, Executive Director of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, “The purpose of the breakfast is to celebrate teachers in the Greater Riverview Chamber and welcome the new teachers to our area, as well as congratulate the 2014 Teachers of the Year. We hope to be an encouragement to the teachers and let them know how vital they are to our community.”

The committee for this event is seeking donations to give to the teachers to help supplement the school supplies needed to operate their classrooms. It is estimated that teachers spend up to $1,500 of their own money to stock their classrooms with supplies. This is a wonderful time for our community to give back to these outstanding teachers. Each teacher that attends this breakfast is given a large goodie bag filled with the schools supplies that are donated by businesses and families in the Riverview area.

Supplies can be dropped off at the Riverview Chamber, which is located at 10012 Water Works Ln. in Riverview from Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Donations may also be dropped off at CenterState Bank located at 10101 Bloomingdale Ave., at the corner of Bloomingdale Ave. and 301. All donations should be dropped off by 4 p.m. on Monday, August 11.
