This July, Boulevard Salon at 210 E. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon will celebrate five years in business as owner Kathy Hegenauer welcomes clients new and old to discover the company’s mantra of “redefining the salon experience.”

Hegenauer is by no means green to the beauty business, as the Boulevard Salon is the third salon she has owned and managed in the past 22 years. She opened Salon & Spa in 1992, and later the Salon for Hair and Nails. However, Boulevard holds special significance for her and her staff, as a business venture that reunited old friends. Hegenauer explained that after owning the first day spa in Hillsborough County, the Salon & Spa, for eleven years, she sold it to spend time with her two daughters.

“During that time, some of my prior staff and clients would tell me they wished we were still together and that those were the best of days for all of us,” Hegenauer said. Just a few years later, Boulevard was born.

Every year Boulevard Salon celebrates its anniversary month by attending the Premier Show in Orlando. This international beauty industry gathering tackles the newest styles and trends that celebrities and fashion magazines are promoting. At the show, Boulevard stylists take educational classes on new styles, techniques and products to match its modern clientele.

Five years of continued growth have earned Boulevard bronze for massage therapist in Best of Brandon 2013, and a reputation for its esthetician work, which is unmatched in the area for Image Skin Care. Besides keeping sharp on skills, Boulevard stylists like to create a personal bond with customers. During the month of July, first-time visitors to the salon will receive gifts to highlight the salon’s appreciation as new items are debuted in the shop.

Hegenauer wanted to let would-be visitors know that they are “bright, colorful, warm and inviting.” She joked that the decor and atmosphere within the salon contradicts the prim and reserved exterior of the building, but that her front-facing windows look out onto Brandon Boulevard to allow passerby’s to watch the stylists at work.

The Salon offers men and women haircuts, color, blow outs and touch ups, and simple to special occasion styling, in addition to waxing, skin care, massage, nails and permanent make-up services.
