Seth Reid of Bloomingdale was the recipient of the first Future Leader Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship, fully funded by the Lansky Law Group, which will be awarded annually to a local high school senior who desires to pursue a career in law.

Reid, who is home schooled, will attend Union University in Jackson, Tenn. this fall. He plans to major in history, minor in political science and then ultimately pursue a degree in law.  Reid said, “I like the way the practice of law requires the brain to understand a complex situation and provide representation to those who need it.”

Reid said that he is considering pursuing a career in politics one day. He has decided to attend Union University because the school places great emphasis on academics. He and his mom are very happy and grateful that he has received this scholarship.

Reid has participated in the Florida YMCA Youth in Government program for the last six years. This year he attended the national competition in Chicago and was awarded “Outstanding Attorney.” He participated in the Appellate Competition where he represented the respondent in a case concerning unfair treatment and equal rights.

Reid has also interned with Representative Ross Spano’s office.

Jordan Lansky of Lansky Law Group said of Reid, “Seth was chosen because he demonstrated the leadership qualities and aptitude that are necessary for a successful career in law. Seth is a very deserving recipient and we are proud to award our first scholarship to such a fine young man.”

Lansky has established a High School Law Club which will begin formally meeting in September.

“We held an organizational meeting in May and had representation from students that attend Newsome, Bloomingdale, Strawberry Crest, and the homeschool community. The club will be open to all tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students,” said Lansky.

Membership in the club will be limited to 30 students. Meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the offices of Lansky Law Group located at 137 S. Parsons Ave. in Brandon.  There are no fees or dues associated with club membership. Monthly meetings will include guest speakers from the legal community, mock trials and discussions regarding current legal issues.
