Sumatra Bistro, recently reopened after being closed for renovations, is a local café that offers fresh and healthy food choices for customers, with dine-in options and a pet-friendly patio. Located at 1602 Oakfield Dr. in Brandon, the cafe has continued to be a hot spot for healthy, active people who live in the Brandon area for six years.

Sumatra Bistro offers breakfast and lunch menu items served fresh, natural and organic.  From the oven-baked goods, homemade soups, and sandwiches, wraps and paninis, diners can’t go wrong with any selection. If stopping by for breakfast, the organic buckwheat pancakes or bananas foster offer healthy and filling choices.

Toni De Los Santos, a waitress at Sumatra Bistro, is excited about the updated menu, especially the new, hot entrees in the soup and sandwich section of the breakfast and lunch menus.

“All our menu options can be changed to gluten free,” De Los Santos said.

The restaurant has made some changes in the menu to accommodate people with gluten sensitivity and also offers vegetarian friendly meals.

Sumatra Bistro also offers dinner on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 5 p.m.  A different menu with chef inspired dishes is created each week so diners can enjoy new flavors each time they visit. Select beers and wine are also offered with dinner.

Sumatra Bistro has also hired a new chef, Curtis Moffett. After working at Bern’s Steakhouse, and as the Executive Sous Chef at Jackson’s Bistro on Harbour Island, he started his own catering business eight years ago, Anu Cuisine. Moffett’s cooking style is noted for a mix of traditional American with light Mediterranean and Asian influences. To him, food is art, and there is no reason that food shouldn’t look  as good as it tastes. He will be keeping some of the old bistro favorites and will add some of his own creations.

“Curtis came with the remodel. He is full of great ideas,” De Los Santos said.

Sam Rashid owns both Divine Designs Salon & Spa and Sumatra Bistro. As a special Grand re-opening offer, diners at Sumatra Bistro will receive a special savings of the value of thier receipt up to $10 off of regular priced services at Divine Designs. See spa for details. The restaurant is open Monday to Friday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. To check out the new menu, visit www.sumatrabistro.com or call 655-6200.
