ArtworksDurdinKathleenWinesAlmostGone02Since 2000, the Brandon League of Fine Arts has been celebrating the talents of local artists with its annual juried art show, ARTWORKS. This year, a special reception is set for Thursday, September 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Center Place located at 619 Vonderburg Dr. in Brandon. The community is invited to meet the artists behind the pieces.

Sue Allen, a local, nationally acclaimed watercolor artist is the Chairperson for ARTWORKS 2014.

“This is the most comprehensive art exhibition at Center Place in Brandon each year,” Allen said. “Area visual artists were invited to submit their new work in all mediums. All the work will be pre-juried for inclusion in the show so artists will submit only their best work. After the selected show is hung, the judge will determine the award winners who will be announced at the opening reception on Thursday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the opening or to stop by Center Place anytime during September to see this excellent exhibit.”

This year’s judge is Debra Jo Radke, a Tampa based painter, printmaker and mixed media artist. Radke is originally from Grand Rapids, Mich. Radke received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with honors from Michigan State University in 1978. She received her Master’s of Fine Arts, Phi Kappa Phi, from the University of South Florida in 1997. Radke serves as 2003-14 Curator of Exhibitions for the TECO Public Art Gallery in Tampa.

Thirty-five area artists have submitted 60 pieces of artwork for the show. Approximately 40 pieces will be in the show.
