Golden City Gymnasts get National Recognition

Coaches and athletes, along with parents at Golden City Gymnastics, had every reason to be proud last month following the participation of four young gymnasts at the recent State Talent Opportunities Program (TOP).

According to Golden City Compulsory Coach Shauna Swartz, the four gymnasts, Maya Montclare, 7, Emerson Fisk, 7, Kelsey Lee, 9, and Rayna Light, 9 took part in the state TOPs testing where they are evaluated on their strength and abilities, along with other gymnasts throughout the state of Florida.

“Only a certain percentage of gymnasts qualify for National testing and our very own Rayna and Kelsey are among them,” Swartz proudly said adding that, while Montclare and Fisk also did a great job at testing, they were not eligible for National level testing, since they are both only seven years old. Montclare qualified for the Diamond Team.

Lee and Light, along with Golden City Head Coach Marissa Ramos, will travel to Texas this month to attend the 2014  National testing.

“At National testing, the girls will be evaluated among the whole nation,” Swartz said, adding “If successful they will be invited to a National Training camp in Texas at the ranch where the Olympians train to get ready for the Olympics.”

BSAC Posts Third Annual Dash and Splash SuccessSportsBSAC

In its continued effort to raise awareness and fund its drowning prevention initiative, the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center (BSAC) has successfully hosted its annual Dash and Splash Aquathon, earlier this month.

Close to 100 residents, young and old, many who are members of BSAC and the center’s Blue Wave swim program took an active part in the timed event consisting of a two mile run, quarter mile swim and a one mile run for adults that was scheduled to be held on at the facility at 405 Beverly Blvd. in Brandon.

BSAC officials were proud to host the contest for the third time in a row as an important event for both the center as well as for the community.

For children ages 7 to 10, the contest featured a half mile run, 100 meter swim, while children ages 11 to 14 were able to take part in a one mile run, 200 meter swim.

Fourteen-year-old, Burns Middle School student and Blue Wave swimmer Noah Lemar, enjoyed the spotlight and the trophy that came with winning the race in his age group.

“I love this event,” Lemar said adding that while he felt good during the run portion of the race, being a swimmer helped him to win first place.
