Wendy McGinnis knew she wanted to practice law since the seventh grade. She attended Seton Hall School of Law in New Jersey, graduating with her J.D. in 2000, and moved to Florida that same year, where she has been practicing Family Law since 2001.
She opened her own law firm in 2007, McGinnis Law Firm, P.A., to be able to have flexibility over the types of cases and clients she took on, and to be able to structure her firm so that clients deal directly with her and not an assistant or less experienced associate.
“I always knew that one day I would open my own firm, but I wanted to gain the necessary experience first through working at private law firms,” McGinnis said. “I wanted to make sure I knew how to do every job in the law firm, not just the job of the attorney, before opening my own firm, including the billing and accounting work, the paralegal and receptionist work, and the job of managing the firm. I believe a business owner should be well-versed in all aspects of their business in order for it to succeed.”
McGinnis Law Firm mostly deals with divorce, post-divorce, paternity and child support cases, and it also handles adoption cases.
“Our firm stands out because I deal with my clients personally on their cases and I am knowledgeable and experienced in the area of family law, having focused on that in law school as well as in my entire career to date,” said McGinnis.
McGinnis is also a Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator, which adds to her ability to settle cases and prepare for trials.
McGinnis is very active in the community. She has been on the board of the local soccer league in Brandon as the secretary for many years. She participates in annual charity races (5Ks, 8Ks and 15Ks) and she was also a Girl Scout troop leader. McGinnis has been married for over 15 years and is a mother of four.
