KCClogoKid’s Community College (KCC) Southeast elementary school invites the community to celebrate its Third Annual KCC-SE International Festival on Saturday, April 18, at YMCA Camp Cristina. This is the schools biggest fundraiser of the year and will help raise needed funds for extracurricular activities as well as keeping up with other general costs. The event will have an international flavor in more ways than one. Students of KCC will be delivering verbal presentations and displays for different countries around the world.

“We’re really trying to bring an international learning mindset to our kids,” said CPA President for KCC, Miranda Kelly.

In addition to the student’s presentations, there will be international food trucks including Puerto Rican, Mediterranean and Caribbean food styles.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children over 10 and $2 for children under 10 years of age. The price includes a free kid’s zone with games, crafts and entertainment. A bounce house will be onsite for an additional charge. A separate vendor area will be available for commercial and non-profit businesses who would like to advertise their business. Non-profit companies can receive a table free of charge. Sponsors include Manatee Apparel Graphics, Rebecca Conner Photography, Osprey Observer and Camp Cristina.

Kid’s Community College Southeast location is an IB Chartered Charter School. The school is built on the principle that “Every student is a unique individual with unique needs, capabilities and desires.” Fundraisers like this one ensure that the school raises enough money to offer extracurricular activities for its students. Charter schools must offset funding that is normally received by public schools.

“We only get 60 cents on the dollar compared to what public schools get,” said Kelly. “We also have a lot of extra costs to train our teachers to be IB certified.”
