By Kathy Collins xmasKidsplacelogoDebbie Ploor, owner of Orange Home Accessories in Valrico, will host her Fourth Annual Christmas in July on Friday, July 24 from 6-9 p.m. The annual event benefits the foster children who live at A Kid’s Place in Brandon. The public is invited to have fun and provide much needed assistance to the children.

A Kid’s Place, located at 1715 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. in Brandon, provides a safe and loving home for abandoned, abused and neglected children. It is unique in that siblings can stay together in a home-like environment. A Kid’s Place utilizes live-in house parents which ensures that the children are provided with consistent caregivers in a family style setting.

This year, the public is asked to bring socks, underwear and pajamas for the children. Individuals who make a donation will receive 10 percent off purchases and a $5 reward card at Orange Home Accessories. Ploor explained, “This year they are in need of socks, underwear and pajamas in all sizes. Unfortunately they have more older children so teen and adult sizes are in short supply.”

The Christmas in July event will feature food and wine, an appearance from Santa and his elf, as well as raffles.

When asked why she holds this event for A Kid’s Place, Ploor said, “As a small business I feel it is important to give back to the community. The mission of A Kid’s Place touches my heart as a parent. They are giving children a loving, safe and learning environment that will give them the opportunity for a good future.”xmasorange_logo_a

Ploor added, “Everyone thinks about giving back during the holidays. During the summer, non-profits suffer from lack of donations so this is a good time to get into the spirit of giving back in the community. Our Christmas in July has become a tradition that everyone looks forward to and has brought attention to my customers about A Kid’s Place. It is a wonderful local non-profit in our own backyard.”

Orange Home Accessories is more than a gift and home decor store. Ploor and her staff provide great inspiration and resources for finding the perfect item. For more information, visit www.orangehomedecor.com. For more information on A Kid’s Place, visit www. akidsplacetb.org.
