Theologian Saint Augustine once said, “The greatest evil is physical pain.” Katrina Hockman of Brandon would agree with Saint Augustine. Hockman suffered a back injury a few months back that left her in excruciating pain. Her doctor sent her to Therapy & Sports Center to receive physical therapy for her injury.

“My first thought was ‘great, a mom and pop place,’ but from the very first visit and every single one since have been exceptional,” Hockman said. “Their staff are consummate professionals, informative on what your care should be and they listen to your needs or concerns, in addition to being prompt with your appointments.”

Therapy & Sports Center has been a part of the Brandon community since 2003. “When I opened Therapy & Sports Center of Brandon in 2003, all we had was a treadmill, a Schwinn Airdyne Bike and a few treatment tables,” said Owner Joshua Sperry. “As we become more well known to the community and local physicians, our business was able to expand from our first clinic at the corner of Faulkenburg and Causeway, to the hospital area of Brandon.”

The business currently has two locations to serve the community. One office is located in Brandon and the other is in Riverview.

The goal of Therapy & Sports Center is to help people of all ages and abilities achieve and continue to improve their optimal function. Their vision is to create a friendly, individualized environment in which the patient enjoys being an active participant in the rehabilitation process.

“What makes us different is our staff and the fact that we do not overbook patients,” Sperry said. “We have a philosophy when hiring staff, and that is to hire clinicians not based on the school they went to but rather based on their ability to relate to people and listen.”

“Our goal is to educate each patient on what they have going on and put together a program to focus on the individual, not the diagnosis,” Sperry said. “People’s lives are busy these days and we have to be able to adapt to each person’s situation.”
